"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

This painting by Kristina Česonytė is lively and complex. It's filled with bold black strokes and splashes of color. The white background isn't plain; it's layered with marks and smudges. Shades of blue, red, yellow, and green peek through. The style is abstract and expressive, showing a lot of movement. Kristina Česonytė uses abstraction to tell stories. Maybe these marks represent memories or emotions left behind. Each viewer might see something different in this chaos of color and line. The beauty of this artwork lies in its mystery and the personal response it evokes from each person who sees it.
