"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

This painting by Kristina Česonytė is striking. It portrays three figures, and their outlines are bold and simple. The background consists of textured gray swirls. The central figure appears torn or splitting, with red drops resembling tears or blood falling down the middle. This might symbolize pain or emotional breaking. The style is abstract and minimalist. Česonytė uses thick, golden lines to define the characters, which makes them stand out against the complex gray background. The use of color is limited, focusing attention on the red drops. This painting conveys deep emotions using simple forms.
