"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+

The painting shows an array of circles and semicircles. The layout is grid-like. Some circles are solid taupe, others have a mix of taupe and white with pink swipes. The background is plain, emphasizing the circles. Kristina Česonytė uses minimalism here. Colors are limited and shapes are simple. This style creates a clean, calm effect. The placement and intersection of shapes seem precise, adding interest. Kristina Česonytė might be exploring themes of repetition and variation. The artwork invites viewers to notice subtle differences within uniformity. It's both simple and intriguing.
