Artwork in the room
"K. Česonytė’s paintings are variations on Expressionist painting: characterized by a trembling touch, energetic brushstrokes, and expressive paint textures with which she often seems to 'sculpt' figures, objects, and landscape elements. In terms of genre, the scope of her work is quite traditional. Landscapes predominate, though the artist has also painted a series of still lifes, numerous urban scenes, and the occasional stylized portrait. Yet, other aspects of K. Česonytė’s painting align her less with classical modernist art and more with the imagery of the contemporary, media-saturated world. 'My tools are the computer and virtual space,' she says. The visual imagery in her paintings derives not from reality itself, but from a virtual—or secondary—reality. For this creative artist, however, that serves merely as a springboard or a starting signal that liberates both imagination and hand. In her work, this secondary reality—or a chance motif—and the artist’s imagination most often intertwine inseparably. Images suggested by modern media are transformed into authentic visions, deeply and sensitively experienced by the painter herself."

About this artwork+
The painting is dominated by a dynamic, angular portrayal of an urban landscape viewed from below, creating an almost dizzying perspective. The composition suggests towering buildings captured in an abstract style, with stark lines and shapes, all converging towards the sky. The palette is a cool blend of blues and greys, conveying a sense of an overcast sky or early morning light. Brushstrokes are loose and expressive, indicating movement and the texture of the city environment. Paint splatters and scratches enhance the feeling of raw, weathered surfaces found in the urban setting. The angularity and the reach towards the sky evoke the overwhelming scale of city structures, making the viewer feel small in comparison.
